Application shows a single alternator with a 2 battery bank system using
a XSP**/1/2BS, for systems with 3 or 4 battery banks use an XSP**/1/3 and
XSP**/1/4 respectively (** denotes rating of X-SPLIT which = charging source
capability, 60A, 90A, 120A ). This allows all three batteries to be charged
simultaneously with ultra low loss from the alternator but prevents any
battery discharging another when the charging source is not present. In
other applications the Alternator can be replaced by another charging source,
such as Wind Generator, Towed Generator, Solar Cell Array etc. Where there
is a multi source charging capability (in addition to the normal alternator)
such as a standby wind generator and or solar cell the additional charging
sources can be paralleled to the input to enable all batteries to be charged
simultaneously.
If the alternator is battery sensing then the extra circuits shown
in dotted line must be used or a separate external energisation source
used to ensure correct alternator charging. In some applications where
a large auxiliary battery bank is used problems have occurred where the
protection fuse is blown when the engine is initially started. If this
problem proves to be a nuisance then the alternative installation in BLUE
is recommended. If there is a spare contact on the ignition switch it is
also possible to use an energisation feed obtained directly from the auxiliary
battery. For applications requiring the use of an alternator charge controller
in conjunction with the X-SPLIT look at the
application notes associated with the X-ALT.
