1) Disconnect
battery.
2) Locate X-CELL
as close to the battery source as possible, ensuring that it is in a dry
and ventilated position. Secure firmly.
3) Use input
cables at least as large as those shown in the table below.
4) Use correct
tube terminals on cables M8 for X-CELL
and (usually) M6 for batteries. These are available from most electrical
shops or from Driftgate 2000 Ltd. at the time of purchase.
DO NOT USE CROCODILE CLIPS OR WRAP CABLE ENDS UNDER THE NUTS.
5) Automatic
mains/battery change-over. These models have a 3 core flying lead protruding
from the rear of the unit. This should be connected to the local mains
supply via suitable FUSED connection, (maximum fuse rating depending
on power rating of unit).
6) Remote control.
When Remote Control is fitted, the switch on the rear of the X-CELL
marked "EXTERNAL/INTERNAL" should be switched to "EXTERNAL" and the Remote
Control Unit plugged into the 9 pin socket.
7) Where the
output is to be wired to comply with the RCD connect the neutral output
of the socket to earth, ensure that only one output is wired to earth in
order to avoid misconnection.
8) When the cables
are secured and fully tightened re connect the battery.
Note :-
There is a considerably greater voltage drop on cable runs of low voltage,
high current systems than high voltage, low current systems. This simple
formula can be used to calculate the expected voltage drop :-
E (volts drop) = 0.0164 x I (current flow) x L (length in metres
including positive and negative leads)/ S (cable size in mm)
For maximum efficiency and safety it is important to reduce the distance
from battery to inverter to the practical minimum. The cable length of
the AC supply from inverter to appliance is relatively unimportant.
The following chart gives the maximum recommended cable run, in metres,
with cable sizes, in order to maintain an acceptable voltage at the inverter
input terminals.
