X-PORT APPLICATION No.3
Application shows a 1 input 3 output X-PORT and
a single alternator with the addition of an X-ALT
Skipper" alternator charge controller for boost charging the alternator's
output. The addition of the "Skipper" enables
the batteries to be charged quicker and more efficiently then if a stand
alone alternator is used. As the losses of the X-PORT
are low the output of the alternator does not have to be increased
above the normal boost charge voltage to overcome the loss that would occur
if a standard diode splitter was used instead of the X-PORT.
As in all other applications the amount of charge that each battery receives
is dependent on the charge state of each battery bank at any one time.
In Other applications the Alternator can be replaced by another charging
source, such as Wind Generator, Towed Generator, Solar Cell Array etc.
Where there is a multi source charging capability (in addition to the normal
alternator) such as a standby wind generator and or solar cell the additional
charging sources can be paralleled to the input to enable all batteries
to be charged. The X-PORT is required when
the alternator current rating exceeds 120 Amps.
If the alternator is battery sensing then the additional circuitry showing as an ignition feed should be included it ensure correct alternator charging. For applications requiring the use of an alternator boost charge controller in conjunction with the X-PORT look at the application notes associated with the X-ALT.
