X-SPLIT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLING

DO NOT ATTEMPT INSTALLATION OF X-SPLIT UNLESS YOU HAVE BASIC AUTO-ELECTRICAL KNOWLEDGE!
NO LIABILITY CAN BE ACCEPTED BY THE COMPANY FOR DAMAGE CAUSED BY INCORRECT INSTALLATION.

1) X-SPLIT is only suitable for electrical systems with negative earth return in the range 6 to 32 volts. PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE SYSTEM FOR INSTALLATION IS OF THIS TYPE.
2) Disconnect Battery negative (-) lead first, followed by the positive (+) lead. (This is to prevent accidental damage by shorting positive lead to earth return).
3) Locate a suitable position for X-SPLIT and fit securely. Choose a position near to the charging source which affords protection from extremes of heat and ingress of oil and water. Ensure there is a free flow of air around and under the unit. Although the X-SPLIT itself is waterproof, any moisture between the terminals may conduct small amounts of current and impair the operating performance.
4) Connect the X-SPLIT 0 volt (-ve) spade terminal to the charging source 0 volt negative) using the connecting lead supplied. NOTE. 0 volt (negative) should preferably be connected directly to 0 volt (negative) of charging source and not to battery earth return unless a good electrical contact can be guaranteed.
5) Connect charging source to input V+ of X-SPLIT. When fitting dual input X-SPLIT, connect second V+ to second charging source and connect both -ve spade terminals to their respective charging source 0 volts (negative) terminals.
6) Connect Output 1 V+ and Output 2 V+ to separate battery banks. NOTE. Ensure all current carrying cables are of sufficient capacity and all terminations are made with copper tube terminals of the correct cable and stud size.
6a) Repeat (6) for outputs 3 & 4 for additional battery banks. (Applicable to X-SPLIT 3 & 4 output models only).
7) CHECK THAT ALL WIRING CONNECTIONS ARE CORRECT, AND TIGHT.
8) Re-connect batteries.
9) Commence charging, ensuring that the X-SPLIT red led is illuminated. (Two led's on 2 + 2 models). IF LED IS NOT ON, SWITCH OFF IMMEDIATELY AND RE-CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS.

NOTES:-

Additional information for units for use with battery sensed alternators.

Where a battery sensed X-SPLIT is fitted, the small M4 terminal should be connected to the switched side of the ignition. i.e. only "live" when the ignition is on.
On old units where sense protection fuse is not included we recommend that a separate 5 amp fuse is connected into the battery sense lead OTHERWISE THE IN BUILT DIODE MAYBE DESTROYED.

Where an X-ALT Alternator Boost Charge Controller is fitted, connect the X-ALT's battery sense wire to the +Ve terminal of the battery with the greatest demand.
Where any supply sources may be fitted with a sense wire, e.g. battery chargers, battery sensed alternators or battery charge boosters, always connect the sense wire to the V+ terminal of the battery with the greatest current demand.
