Notes:
The Alt14 is a 14 volt 110 Amp unit suitable for or as a replacement alternator on Yanmar (Hitachi) and Vetus M4 (see note below) engines except for the Shire range due to space constraints. On the Shire range the main power stud conflicts with the engine parts. If replacing lower rating alternators ensure that all cables are capable of handling the higher current capacity. If an electronic charge splitter or mechanical charge splitter is used to provide split charging facility ensure the equipment is capable of handling the increased current capability. The alternator comes with a standard 6mm pulley, suitable for a 12mm drive belt, other pulley sizes to order at extra cost.
These alternators are not insulated ground but a fully rated negative connection is advisable to ensure good electrical connection.
Note When used on Vetus M4 engines the B- stud has to be reduced slightly to avoid fouling the heat exchanger.
On Vetus enginestype M4/14 an extra spacer, lenngth 7/8", 22.2mm dia 8mm will be required for the lower bracket,
(Our thanks to Mr. Vize for this information.)
The wirung needs to change as follows; the terminal marked 'L' goes to the terminal 'L' on the alternator and the terminal 'R' is insulated and not used.
To modify this alternator for use with our range of alternator charge controllers will require the alternator to be dismantled as the brush connections are internal to the alternator. For modification details goto the alternator modification page by clicking here.
When replacing Hitachi alternators, re-wire the Blue/Black to the 'L' terminal and insulate the Red/Black which is no longer required. The Blue/Black is the charge warning light and energization feed, the Red/Black is an ignition feed.
